Book a Hotel Room Inside ChatGPT, Then Continue on WhatsApp With the Hotel's AI Concierge

More travelers now start a trip by asking an AI assistant instead of opening a search engine. "I need a room in Doha, 14 to 16 November. Anything at the Waldorf?" is a perfectly normal sentence to type into ChatGPT. The problem for hotels is what happens next: the assistant answers from whatever it can find on the open web, and the guest is sent off to a booking site, usually someone else's.

msg2.ai now gives a hotel its own plugin for ChatGPT. The guest asks, the plugin answers with the hotel's real rooms and rates, the guest pays, and the conversation moves to WhatsApp, where the hotel's AI concierge already knows the booking. We built the first one for Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay. Here is how it works.

Step 1: The Guest Asks, and ChatGPT Asks the Hotel

There is nothing to install and no website to visit. The guest uses the hotel's plugin from inside ChatGPT. When they ask about a room, ChatGPT does not guess. It calls the hotel's plugin, a single endpoint hosted by msg2.ai that knows that one property: its room types, its rates, and its rules.

Behind the plugin sits a room catalog the hotel controls. Room types, nightly rates in the local currency, seasons, and the dates a room has been closed for sale.

Step 2: Only Rooms That Are Actually Free

The answer that comes back is limited to what the hotel is willing to sell on those dates. A Deluxe King and an Executive Suite appear with their rates and a Book & pay button. A room the hotel has stop-sold for those dates is simply left out, so ChatGPT cannot offer it, and the guest never gets excited about a room that is not there.

For revenue teams this is the part that matters. Availability is not an AI's best guess. It is the hotel's own catalog, and closing a date closes it everywhere the plugin is used.

Step 3: Hold, Pay, Confirm

When the guest chooses a room, the booking runs in three moves:

  1. Hold. The plugin holds the room and opens a Stripe checkout page in the hotel's name.
  2. Pay. The guest pays on Stripe. Card details never touch ChatGPT or msg2.ai.
  3. Confirm or release. A completed payment confirms the booking. A cancelled one frees the room again.

Stripe confirms the payment, and ChatGPT shows the guest a booking reference with one more button.

Step 4: The Conversation Moves to WhatsApp

That button is a WhatsApp link to the hotel's AI concierge, with the booking already written into the first message: the room, the dates, and the reference. There is no sign-up and no form. The concierge knows who the guest is from the very first line.

From there the guest is in a channel they already use every day, talking to an assistant that handles everything after the booking: a car from the airport at 18:40, a table for dinner, a spa appointment, directions, opening hours. It is the same front desk automation hotels use for in-stay questions, now connected to the moment of booking instead of starting after check-in.

Why This Matters for Hotels

  • Direct bookings from a new channel. The guest books with the hotel itself, not through an intermediary, from the place where they are already planning the trip.
  • Accurate by design. ChatGPT reads your catalog, so rates and availability match what you actually sell.
  • Payment stays with Stripe. Checkout is branded for the hotel and card data stays on Stripe's side.
  • The relationship does not end at payment. The booking turns into a WhatsApp conversation, which is where upsells, arrival logistics and post-stay feedback happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can guests really book a hotel room inside ChatGPT?

Yes. With the msg2.ai hotel plugin, ChatGPT checks the hotel's own room catalog, holds the room, and hands the guest to a Stripe checkout page. When the payment completes, the booking is confirmed.

Does ChatGPT see the guest's card details?

No. Payment happens on a Stripe page in the hotel's name. Card details never touch ChatGPT or msg2.ai.

What happens after the guest pays?

ChatGPT shows a booking reference and a button that opens WhatsApp with the booking pre-filled. The hotel's AI concierge picks up from the first message and can arrange transfers, dining, the spa and more.

Can the hotel close rooms for certain dates?

Yes. Stop-sold dates live in the room catalog, and a closed room is never shown to the guest or offered by ChatGPT.
